Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator: Emily Mabe

Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator: Emily Mabe

We are very pleased to announce our previous Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Emily Mabe, was named the 2016 Army Fisher House Volunteer of the Year as well as the 2016 Fisher House Foundation Volunteer of the year! Emily now volunteers as our Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator.

Emily began volunteering with us in 2013 as a member of our Meals Team. In 2015, she took on the role of Volunteer Coordinator. This role required between 30-40 volunteer hours each week.

Emily has served the Wounded Service Member community since 2005 both professionally and through volunteer work. Her relationship with Fisher House began in 2006 when she joined the Meals Team at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Fisher House.

In her role as Wounded Service Coordinator for the Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP), she provided assistive technologies to over 3,000 Wounded Service Members, often times meeting the Service members at Fisher Houses all over the country to conduct their assistive technology needs assessments.

Emily went on to work at the Office of Warrior Care Policy, as a member of the Integrated Disability Evaluations System (IDES), leading the Veterans Tracking Application (VTA) Team. In this role she was responsible for monitoring thousands of cases to ensure they were adhering to policy and the service member’s case was meeting timeline goals.

When her family PCSed to Germany, she was a brand new first-time mom and decided to put her career on hold to focus on her family. However, when opportunities to volunteer with us arose she eagerly jumped in! When asked about her time with us she replied:

“My time volunteering at the Landstuhl Fisher House has been incredibly special! I feel so blessed to have the privilege of continuing to pursue my passion of serving military families. The Fisher House mission is one I’m so proud to be helping with. I have witnessed firsthand how providing a “home away from home” has helped these families through difficult times. Receiving this award was completely unexpected. However, I will treasure it always as I do my time at the Landstuhl Fisher House!”

Emily is married to Major Douglas Mabe, who is a C-130J pilot in the Air Force. She and Doug are the proud parents of their son Liam Findlay Mabe.
